Day 1 of Challenge: Let’s Clarify

March 11, 2009

Hi guys!
Thanks so much for the support on the recent  Drab to Fab  Challenge!!

I just wanted to make sure to clarify a few things for readers so that I don’t give off the wrong impression.

  1. There is no way that I will deprive myself.  If at any point I feel like this is bringing my mood down significantly, as in it’s really affecting my lifestyle, then I will stop!
  2. The changes aren’t really that big.  Marianne mentioned a hate for dairy when people decide to do a cleanse.  I don’t have much dairy at the moment, other than cheese.  Once in a while you will see cheese on my wraps, and on pizza.  Yesterday you saw cottage cheese on my salad. I gave up milk and yogurt months ago because of stomach issues and I noticed my skin became clearer once I did, so really the next thing to go is the cheese.  I noticed yesterday after eating my salad, I was experiencing stomach issues- it could have been the high amount of veggies, or it could have been the cheese. This is another reason for the experiment!
  3. I don’t drink much, so this shouldn’t be a problem.  I will say though, that it’s my Future Father-in-Law’s birthday next weekend, so I might have a class of wine then. Like I said, I don’t want to feel deprived! :)
  4. The coffee drinking.  My Sister, mentioned in the comments section that she sent me a bunch of coffee…. what about that? Well, Sis don’t worry, it didn’t go to waste- it’s all gone! haha!  I’ve never been a huge coffee drinker.  I’ve always been into my herbal teas, and regular tea (since moving to England!), so the coffee was a pretty new thing added to my daily lifestyle… just within the last three months. So, it’s not something i’ve drank for years and now am giving up.  I think it will be interesting to see how this goes, because it has been a bit of a ritual now in the mornings & on the weekends when Steve and I get up… he has tea, I have coffee.

BUT….

It’s only for 26 days!!

It’s not something I plan on keeping up for life (unless I notice major positive changes!). It’s just an extended version of many bloggers Crap-Free-Week! :)

Moving on to this morning! DAY 1.

I enjoyed a nice brew with Mr. Tim Horton:

In the mix:

  • 1 cup Alpro soy milk
  • huge handful of spinach
  • 1 tbsp ground flax
  • 2 mint leaves
  • 1 banana

I also had 1/2 of a mixed berry Trek Bar.  I’m saving the other half for my break in a few hours.

**************************************************************************

Well, today is going to be a long day because after my day job I have to go work at the restaurant from 6:30 until about 11- 11:30.  I’m not sure that i’ll be able to post before going into work tonight but i’m going to try! On nights like tonight dinner is usually quick and easy. I’m still not sure what to have.  Any ideas??

This is a postcard I just sent to one of my friends (and bridesmaid!) at home.  She’s been obsessed with Prince William since I met her years ago! I think she’ll like it! ;)

Have a great day everyone!!!!

That green drink looks brave… I hope your skin truly gleams after 26 days of those babies!

Glad to hear you won’t be depriving yourself! I did think of one thing you could try: replace your soy milk with a different non-dairy milk such as hemp, almond, oat or rice. Soy isn’t evil but it’s good to mix things up and too much soy can interfere with hormones (but this happens mostly when there’s too much high processed soy in your diet, which i don’t think there is!).

I think your plan sounds right on track, and will make you feel great :) Just because our body gets used to something, doesn’t mean it is good for us ;)

A year and a half ago, or so, I did what I called a “face fast”…

    I put NOTHING… and I mean NOTHING on my face for a week!… save chapstick, I think…

It was crazy, and I learned a lot about my face and my skin in the process. It was tough, because I had to check my ego, about not wearing makeup, but it was pretty cool in the end… here is a link, if you want to read more about it. http://www.kelseytoney.com/?p=27

Very best of luck with your skin regime!

Good luck with your challenge. Coffee is one thing I can’t give up. I tried in some earlier blog posts and missed it too much.

  11. March 11, 2009 4:49 pm

Alright- I’m in! It will be a modified version of what works for me, but I’m excited to get out of my dehydrated slump!

  12. March 11, 2009 9:13 pm

I totally thought your green smoothie was a green tea latte when I first saw the picture! Mmmm, green tea latte.

I know I committed to the challenge and I haven’t REALLY been watching diary, caffeine, etc. In my defense, I am hoping some R&R with the fam will help with the drag to fab transformation on the inside ;)
I definitely went through a crazy Prince William stage!
