The Night Before the Half

2009 July 3

It’s 10pm the night before my half marathon and I think i’m pretty much ready! I’m just uploading some new songs to my iPod and i’m all set!!

I ate really well today, including a green monster for breakfast:

Posed with the Andersen Shelters that some children in my class made! During WW2 people were encouraged to build shelters in their back gardens during The Blitz.

Anyway- that’s the teacher in me talking ;)

More to pre-race prep!!

After work Steve and I took a drive to find out where I would need to register tomorrow morning and where the race will be starting..

I was so excited all the way there.  You can see the clouds in the second photo! It looks like it’s been wanting to rain all night but we’ve only had a sprinkle.  Apparently it’s supposed to be nice and cool tomorrow morning.  Low 20s I think, which is fab since it’s been about 30 degrees celcius most of this week!! I think we might get a touch of rain in the morning but nothing that should slow me down.  If anything it will keep me cool! I’m not a fan of rain on the iPod though. We shall see.

While we were out I picked up some goodies..

I’m bringing that peanut & oat Trek bar (yay discounts!) to the race tomorrow so that I can eat it once i’m done! I’m also planning on bringing some fruit and of course a bottle of water.

I’m drinking one of the detox teas right now.  I love Yogi!

I also bought these:

I’m not 100% sure what these are like.  I normally use gummi bears on my long runs, but I figured 13.1 miles deserved some of the good stuff.

I love how it says ENERGY on it! That’s a good sign! haha!  I’m taking 5 with me on my race and probably won’t need one until 6-7 miles but we shall see.  I put them in a little plastic bag and I will clip them to the inside of my tank.

I had a great dinner tonight..

That is turkey and veggies with a wrap on the side (there is hummus on the wrap).

As well as a small bowl of cold pasta salad.

In a way I wish I would have had a vegetarian meal.  I could really have gone for some roasted chickpeas with all those veggies but hey, c’est la vie- I liked the protein.

I’m pretty full and I think that is going to help me tomorrow morning! Normally I wouldn’t have had the pasta salad on the side of that meal, but carbs were my friend tonight!! :)

Tomorrow i’m planning on a piece of toast with natural peanut butter and banana before the race!

Steve has been researching all night where the halfway point is.  He’s going to go pick up his Mom and Emily (our niece!) and they are all going to try to spot me along the canal during the race.  I sure hope he is able to time it right and find me because I won’t have my phone on me to let him know where I am and it will be SO NICE to get the encouragement when i’ll probably need it most!!

I CAN’T WAIT!

My race clothes are hanging to dry as I type this!

597 baby!!!!!

You might be able to go to www.stuweb.co.uk to find out my finish time but i’m really not sure how it works and how quickly it will be up, so no guarantees!

Since i’m 5 hours ahead of many of you readers on the other side of the pond, by the time you get up tomorrow morning I should be just finishing!!

See you tomorrow for a RACE RECAP!!!

I read over at OSG’s that you are doing your first half tomorrow.

    GOOD LUCK!!!!

I did my first in May and then up and decided to do one 2 weeks later!!!! The half is my favorite distance ( I haven’t done a marathon though). It’s long enough to have a good time, to feel like you really accomplished something, and you can enjoy the run!

have fun! I can’t wait to read the race report!
