Put a Spring in your Step for Summer
Back at the beginning of the year (I know – forever ago) I said that this blog would be more than just "this is what my baby and I did today." The last couple of months have been a whirlwind of emotions: going back to work, leaving Sophie, the long cold winter….I could go on and on. I don’t know about you, but with spring here and as the days become longer it gives me a sense of hope that there is more to my life than sleepless nights, curling up on the couch after dinner or wishing that I had a consistent exercise routine. I do exercise; I ran yesterday, but it’s defnitely not on the top 5 list of things I do on a daily basis. I miss it, a LOT. I spent my whole pregnancy seeing people exercising and wishing it was me. I said to Steve dozens of times I cannot WAIT for that to be me. Well, truth be told I did not jump into exercise and healthy eating as quickly as I thought I would after Sophie was born. Other things took priority. I lost the baby weight without a strict diet or exercise regime and I am now at, or even a little below my pre-pregnancy weight. So, I think it’s natural for me not to feel the need to get focused on something that was so strong in my life before. Whether or not it works for other women, breastfeeding really did help me lose the weight I gained while pregnant. I find myself really lucky, but (and there is a BUT), I am not in the same shape that I was before I got pregnant. I do not feel as fit. I have less muscle.
Other goals? Get in the kitchen more and spend more time on me in general.
Enter a new challenge.
Ruby and I have decided that we need to pull ourselves out of the winter rut many of us fall into, and decided to put together a challenge of sorts to help us get motivated from week to week. We have a lot of the same goals, no only to shape up fitness wise but also to clean up our diets, cook a little more, put ourselves first every now and then and start feeling healthier. I can probably speak for a lot of you out there that winter plain ol’ sucks. I know I don’t live in a place that gets regularly dumped on with snow, but the temperatures are still cold, the days are short as ever and motivation lacks in a big way.
The challenge starts this week! Today!
Ruby will be hosting the first challenge for the week so make sure you hop on over to her blog to check out what it is. This was the post she made yesterday about the challenge as well. Each week we will alternate; next week i’ll post the next challenge and so on. The challenges will be based around a few different topics…. healthy eating, fitness and life challenges. I think having a good balance between the three can be a great way to start the new season with.
HERE is the challenge for week 1. It’s all about adding fruits to your diet and getting your read on. I’ll be back mid week to see how you’re all doing and discuss how I am doing as well.
Feel free to link from your blog, have some discussion and get as much (or as little) involved as you want. The challenges will run for the next 12 weeks! Starting at the beginning of Spring and helping us literally run into Summer. Pick and choose which ones you’d like to do, modify them if you wish – whatever helps you.
I know my blogging has been lacking, I know that i’ve messed up things like this before..
but I also know my kid is cute as ever so I use that as my excuse. Hope you’ll cut me some slack and join in!
I am so excited for Spring!
Are you in?

Awesome!!! Yay I’m so excited (and scared at the same time: now we HAVE to put our best foot forward!).
haha we will do it!
I think any big change in life, whether having a baby or moving, completely alters your lifestyle and takes some time to adjust. But from my own experience of moving to my own apartment to go to college, once you DO adjust, you realize that you really want to get back into a well-rounded healthy lifestyle. I think it is a fantastic idea and can’t wait to follow you guys and see how it goes!
Sophie is SUCH a cutie!!!
I completely agree Heather. Moving is a huge deal. Getting use to your new surroundings and making your new home yours takes time and can alter your routine something fierce!
I’m really excited for this challenge. I think it’s just what I need to help me keep focused especially as we start a brand new life change with me returning to work next week.
This is such a great idea, I can’t wait to see what you have in store for us.
This is perfect timing for you! I know you will adjust to the working mommy lifestyle just fine Roxanne!
Your daughter is a wonderful excuse
But I agree, I’ve been trying to get out of my winter rut lately too! The sunshine and warmer weather has been helping, and I”m so excited for spring
Same here!!
i still cant believe how big sophie is getting !! and how long her hair is! CUTIE!! spring is a great time to make changes and challenge yourself in new ways; hope it goes well!!
Oh Christy, do not even get me started on Sophie’s hair lol. From day 1 it has been a crazy do. I brush it and 5 minutes later its messy again – I can’t wait until its longer and weighs it down a bit so it doesn’t stick up everywhere hehe!
What a great idea! I think it’s wonderful you took time to ‘naturally’ come back to thinking about fitness and getting stronger again…sometimes it’s scary to think women are expected to give birth and start a fitness regimen right away! I’ll definitely be following along, I just started a new blog geared towards fitness & health so this is right up my alley. (@BirdChic on twitter…love your blog!)
